WHAT ABOUT PEACE?
Leah Schadrac
18 years old, Florida

1st Verse

My father's first childhood memory (happened when)
He was only five (he)
Almost didn't survive (almost died)

They came upon him unexpectedly (quietly)
And then they burned his house (down)
Everyone ran out (all but him)

But he still lived to see another day (like today)
A friend jumped in and saved (the)
Baby from the flames (but)

This wouldn't be the last time that he came (close to death)
He'd later understand (he'd)
Finally comprehend

Vamp

But isn't it a shame (shame)
People choose to hate (hate)
We see someone different
Don't try to understand (them)

What about the hurt (hurt)
What about the pain (pain)
When are we gonna try
Try to make a change (2x)

Chorus

This anger's gonna kill us one day
Like all the lives that have been stolen away,
We need to realize there's a much better way.

What happened to our priorities?
We're letting wealth and power come before humanity,
We fight if we got to but don't think:
what about peace?

2nd Verse

Although our differences are all we see (all we see)
And though they may outnumber
The things we have in common

The truth is those few similarities (honestly)
That we share with each other
Are actually much stronger

We could come together and find a way (there's a way)
A way to end the violence
Instead of being silent

We could make tomorrow a brighter day (brighter day)
And speak against the violence
Instead of being silent

Bridge

Mother Africa
Father America
Your people are killing each other
Destroying sister and brother

Constantly divided
Why can't we be united
We got to stop the fighting
What about peace?
What a-about peace
What a-about peace
What a-about peace
What a-about peace (2x)
